GYROLAB™ ASDT Gondola Description

Exterior

The exterior of the GYROLAB gondola has the following characteristics:
  • Lightweight, high-strength, aluminum construction for gondola's frame
  • Streamlined shape
  • Light-tight fiberglass reinforced enclosure (shell)
  • Rearward opening canopy for easy ingress and egress for the trainee
Cockpit

ETC configures the GYROLAB ASDT cockpit to replicate the primary flight controls, primary flight instruments, navigation instruments and engine instruments of a typical high performance aircraft, transport aircraft, and helicopter. The simulation includes a pilot seat, interactive primary and secondary flight controls, wide field of view visual display, separate bezeled instrument display, and aircraft sounds generation and communication system. All cockpit displays come with a generic Head Up Display (HUD) that is controllable through the Interactive Profile Editor.

Cockpit instruments will be displayed on a high resolution LCD flat panel display. The instruments respond realistically to the pilot's flight control inputs to produce a highly realistic flight simulation. This display includes the primary flight instruments of a generic, single engine turboprop aircraft and it incorporates a bezel to enhance the realism of the display and to incorporate pilot adjustment capability to the instruments.

Communication and Monitoring

Infrared camera and lighting system is provided in the cockpit for monitoring of the pilot on closed circuit television.

Communication system provides hands free operation between trainee and operator. This includes two (2) headsets (one headset at the instructor station and one headset in the GYROLAB™ gondola) with attached microphones.

Motion System

The GYROLAB™ gondola is suspended within a multi-gimbal rotational motion base. The gimbal system provides motion in four degrees of freedom (4DOF).

Three gimbals provide 360 degrees of motion in pitch, roll, and yaw. The gimbals are arranged so that pitch is innermost and yaw is outermost. The multi-gimbal system is mounted on a rotational arm to provide the fourth degree of rotational freedom. The 4DOF motion base provides 360° continuous motion and is controllable in both clockwise and counter?clockwise directions.
