| GYROLAB ASDT Capabilities |
Spatial Disorientation Simulation The GYROLAB ASDT provides experience in recognition and recovery from spatial disorientation through both demonstration and fully interactive training. While flying the GYROLABASDT, the trainee can practice procedures and techniques both for common flight conditions and also for those situations and flight conditions that are in actual flight. Since the GYROLAB ASDT provides a realistic and interactive flight environment; training can be accomplished in a safe and controlled environment, at minimal cost and with maximum efficiency.
The GYROLAB ASDT includes thrity (20 fixed wing and 10 rotary wing) fully automated spatial disorientation-training profiles. These training profiles are created by ETC's Aero Medical Training Institute and are embedded in the GYROLAB software. These automated profiles insure training consistency while also providing a significant manpower savings advantage since a console operator, versus an instructor, can conduct "hands-on" spatial disorientation training in the GYROLAB.
Training Profiles The purpose of the automated training profiles is to provide repeatable Training Scenarios to all student pilots. As instructors work with the scenarios, they can fine-tune them to be most effective for each experience level of the pilots who come for training. The AMTI training scenarios are created to be are applicable to both fixed wing and rotary wing pilots. Additionally, Instructors can use the Interactive Profile Editor to create their own profiles that are specific to their aircraft-type pilots (e.g. Transport Aircraft or Fighter Aircraft, or Civilian Aircraft.
Unusual Attitude Recovery Training Unusual attitudes and departure from controlled flight can be presented by the pre-program-med computer profiles. Pilots can be presented with a variety of situations, all of which can be created and/or modified using the GYROLAB's user friendly Interactive Profile Editor. Pilots can then learn and practice recovery from these situations in the GYROLAB's safe, high fidelity, and sustained G learning environment.
Formation Training Real-time control of formation aircraft is provided from the control console instructors station. The instructor pilot may fly his aircraft in real time. |
Research As a research tool, the GYROLAB is unique in that precise, smooth motion in four axes can be duplicated accurately while the subject is medically monitored. Additionally, the computerized control permits sub threshold motion to be demonstrated in the pitch, roll, and yaw axes. The GYROLAB's unique motion system and precise motion control capability supports research in motion sickness, spatial disorientation, and hyper- to hypo- G transition.
