Case Study: Commercial

Case Study: FAA / ERAU Upset Recovery Research

Client: FAA / Embry-Riddle

Date: Fall 2008

ETC entered a multi-year contract with the FAA and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) to perform a study on the effectiveness of Upset Recovery Training (URT) on students using different training devices. The most advanced and successful of those devices was the GYROLAB GL-2000. Twenty-five students from ERAU came to The NASTAR Center for 5 weekends in Fall 2008 to receive two days of Upset Recovery Training.

The students were then tested in a real aircraft and their performance measured against other students trained for Upset Recovery in other simulators. We are very proud to say that the Upset Recovery students trained in the GL-2000 outperformed students from other groups in almost every category. The Upset Recovery training provided by The NASTAR Center gave these students the opportunity to deal with the physiological stresses that they eventually had to deal with in a real aircraft.

upset recovery training at the nastar center

In today's modern commercial aviation market, the minimum requirements are often not sufficient to properly train how to handle unexpected conditions - commonly known as 'Upset Conditions'. The Upset Domain Training Institute (UDTI) at The NASTAR Center specializes in advanced upset recovery training courses that address these Upset Conditions that unexpectedly befall outside the normal flight envelope leading to loss of control.

increasing skill level and confidence to the sky

Through The NASTAR Center's intense upset recovery training curriculum and highly unique sustained G motion simulation flight trainers, are trained to handle any aircraft in any situation while boosting their skill level and confidence in the sky.
